The Bullard Area Chamber of Commerce has chosen EyeCare Associates of East Texas as its April Business in the Spotlight.

The Bullard office, located at 151 Highway 69 North, in the Bullard Crossing shopping center, opened in March of 2011 and serves as one of five satellite clinics from the company’s home office in Tyler.

Head Optometrist Dr. Carol McCuistion earned her doctorate at the University of Houston’s College of Optometry and has been practicing for 31 years. She has spent the last eight years with EyeCare Associates, and the last two working in both Bullard and Jacksonville.

EyeCare Associates’ Bullard location offers exams for glasses and contacts, treatment for infections and injuries, foreign body removal, cataract evaluation, and diabetic and pediatric eye care.

“A lot of optometrists don’t do pediatric eye care but I highly recommend it from infants on up to make sure everything is developing properly and nothing’s wrong,” said Dr. McCuistion.

Dr. McCuistion has served on the chamber’s board of directors, and the company has sponsored the Red, White & Blue Festival and even hosted the patriotic poster contest last year.

“The chamber has helped us get an acquaintance with the community,” she said. “The chamber does so much for Bullard to promote business in all aspects.

Dr. McCuistion has two daughters, Andrea, a junior at the University of Texas at Austin, and Suzi, a senior in high school who will be attending Southwestern University at Georgetown.

Story By Kyle Harris.

The Bullard-Area Chamber of Commerce has announced its March Business in the Spotlight as Jacksonville Title.

Jacksonville Title offers title insurance for residential and commercial real estate transactions. The company is owned by Celia Flowers, of East Texas Title Companies and Flowers, Davis, PLLC, and is one of 14 offices in the 13 surrounding counties in the area.

The company was founded in 2002 and has been a chamber member for about five years.

“Being part of the community and community events gives us a chance to network, advertise and give back to all of our clients who continue to support us,” said Business Officer Beth Wimberley. “Being a locally owned and operated business, our focus is always on the community.”

Celia Flowers, the company’s owner, is originally from canton but has lived in and around the Bullard area for more than a decade. She is board certified attorney in real estate and minerals. She was the Texas Land Title Association title person of the year for 2010- 2011 she has also received awards from the east Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen.

Jacksonville Title participates in many community events and efforts in both Bullard and Jacksonville, including Tomato Fest, blood drives, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Business After Hours and chamber luncheons and dinners.

“We have sponsored the Red, White & Blue Festival several times,” said Closing Manager Brandi Abercrombie. “I have chaired three times previously and am the chair for this year.”

Abercrombie, a Bullardnative, has worked for East Texas Title Company for nine years, with her first five exclusively in Jacksonville, where she was a member of the Kiwanis Club. Since her time in Jacksonville, she has played a management role in all ETTC’s companies. She was named the Texas Land Title Association Rising Star in 2010 and awarded the Peggy Hayes Teaching Excellence award in 2011. She has also been named the BACC Member of the year for 2009 and 2010.

“We value our client relationships and constantly strive to maintain them through consistent, responsive and knowledgeable services,” said Wimberley. We’d like to send a sincere thank-you to our clients and community for your years of continuous support.”

February's Business in the Spotlight Serendipity!

Posted by Bullard Texas Chamber of Commerce

The Bullard-Area Chamber of Commerce has announced its February Business in the Spotlight as Serendipity Consignment Boutique in Jacksonville.

Serendipity, owned by Diana Morgan, has been in operation for about four years, and deals in consigning ladies and children’s retail, including clothes, shoes, accessories and home items.

“When people clean out their closets, we take their clothes and sell them for them for a percentage,” Mrs. Morgan said. “When we sell them, they get half and we get half.”

Mrs. Morgan has been a BACC member since Serendipity’s opening. In addition to her membership, she attends business meetings when she has time and has served as a sponsor for the Red, White & Blue Festival and chamber meetings.

“It’s a good way to network with other businesses and have your name associated with a professional organization and other professional businesses,” she said.

Serendipity came as a result of her retirement from human resources for the City of Jacksonville.

“I wanted to be my own boss, and have a flexible schedule that allowed me to do things with my family when I needed to,” she said. “I was fortunate to have a paycheck and be able to open a business.”

An avid thrift shopper and garage sale attendee, Mrs. Morgan always thought she’d like to have a consignment shop.

“I thought it’d be neat to help people buy nice things at a price they could afford,” she said.

The bulk of her training came from Kate Holmes, owner of “Too Good to Be Threw,” a consignment “guru” who provides a manual for new consignment shops with lots of tips on being successful.

Serendipity offers high-end brands including Chico’s and Liz Claiborne.

“Right now, we have a storewide sale on winter merchandise,” she said. “All of our coats are half-price. We really have promotions going all the time. In this business, you have to turn over the products fast because you get so much of it, and the easiest way to do that is by marking it down.”

Mrs. Morgan has been married for 21 years to Larry Morgan, Bullard’s City Manager. They have six children between the two of them and 11 grandchildren.

BUSINES IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Chamber honors Allied Waste

The Bullard-Area Chamber of Commerce’s January Business in the Spotlight has been named Allied Waste, a Republic Services Company.

Allied Waste provides trash and recycling services for Bullard and 24 other East Texas cities.

“We try to hire the best people to pick up the trash in a safe and efficient manner,” said Gene Keenon, Manager of Government Affairs and Municipal Services. “Safety is real important for us. We are the ones who make the trash you set out before work disappear before you get home.”

Keenon, in his 20th year with the company, handles contracts and negotiations in franchise cities.

“I never thought I’d be in the trash business but it has worked out for me,” he said. “I started on the back of the trash trucks.”

Allied Waste has been a chamber member for more than a decade and is heavily involved in community events.

In addition to numerous sponsorships, the company sponsored the traveling Vietnam Wall during its appearance in town, has representatives attend quarterly Chamber of Commerce mixers and bring door prizes, participates in the annual chamber banquet and encourage state and local legislators to attend, will have a team participating in the construction of the Bullard Kid’s Park and recently helped with demolition and reconstruction of buildings at Bullard ISD campuses. The company was named as the BACC Business of the Year for 2012.

Keenon said chamber membership is vital to the company’s success.

“Anytime you’re working in the community, I feel like the chamber is a lifeline to that community,” he said. “Besides reading your local newspaper and staying up to date on what’s happening, the chamber is that lifeline.”

Allied Waste also offers recycling services at City Hall, available day and night. Keenon said at the rate Bullard is growing, curbside recycling services could soon become available.

Once a year, Allied Waste hosts a citywide cleanup where bulkier items can be placed curbside for pickup in order to beautify Bullard and within the last year implemented the use of trash containers for litter and animal control.

“I feel it’s helped Bullard become a cleaner city by keeping the trash out of the reach of animals and the wind,” he said. “With the recent code enforcement in the city to beautify it and the large participation in the cleanup, Bullard is on its way to becoming one of the cleanest cities in East Texas.”
